One thing to keep in mind is that an error code isn't indicative of a problem with that particular part. The check engine light may or may not come on, but if there is a problem the car's computer should be storing the error code. Since the automatic transmission is electronically controlled, the shop has to have a good computer diagnostic system. I wasn't expecting to incure that debt right now, but I suppose it is cheaper than having to buy a new car.īut I'll take what I'm hearing here and let the Ford mechs know the general area to look. I may just have to take it back to Ford and have them run a diagnostic on it, to see if they can find anything. It is beginning to sound like it could be one of many things. Also, the first time I had it replace I had it replaced at the local Ford garage, so I also assumed that they would use genuine parts, and that one only lasted 30k miles. I don't know exactly what part he used, but he did mention that he could only find the genuine Ford part around here locally, so I assumed that is what he used. The tranny fluid is bright red and does not smell burnt. Neither place mentioned anything about the transaxle fluid sensor. Also, neither place said anything about any sensor. Neither Ford garage or the loacal mech said anything about any bad wiring, but I haven't dropped the pan to see with my own eyes (mainly because nobody around here sells the proper seals.or other parts for that matter.that's what I get for living in podunk, Illinois). When I get the tranny fluid changed I have it changed at the local Valvolene place and have them do it. The check engine light doesn't come on, but then again the car did a lot of jerking the last time before the light came on. Just long enough for it to feel like the car slips out of gear, I lose a little speed, and then it is over. The reason I believe that it is the shift solenoid going out again is because the car is acting exactly like it did before the other two went out: I'll be driving on the highway, cruise control on or off, doing anywhere between 55 and 60, and the car will jerk for a split second. According to them and the OTDII codes I've looke up online, that was the Shift Solenoid B that went out. Took it to the local Ford garage, and they confirmed it after doing their own diagnostics. The first time it went out, I had a local mech read the code, and it came up P0755. Go on ahead and read some stickies in the transmission and ztec section. i bet in a day or two youll have a more pinpoint answer than i can give, so check back. I driva an auto 06 sedan with a duratec so well just have to wait till the experts sleep it off. Plenty of TSB's and recalls on it, so you might find the issue if you took it to a ford shop that had the right books and paperwork on it. for sure though, i have no idea, and its pretty farfetched.Īs far as i know there is a relay behind each soliniod.ĭarned if i have ever heard of it or could figure it out.īut you can read ALL about the older focuses wiring problems.Ġ0 till 03 were wired allmost as bad as an 80 s jaguar. It could be a bad ground issue CAUSING an intermittent relay problem that rubs the solinoid the wrong way. i am less informed about automatic transmissions. I dont really know ztecs, except for the bad grounds and other things youll eventually learn. Or a powertrain control unit, but the body is stamped steel and all you need to control that is a decent suspension (focus has more than enough of that, and its called "controll blade") There might be something called a transmission control unit, I have allso not heard of a body control unit. ![]() Neither are very expensive and I was planning on just replacing both of them.Well, i have to admit i dont know and i cant seem to find it im my books. According the research I've done, it could be either the black plastic connector or the shift solenoid itself. I had the code read and it came up p0755. No odd smell or look to the fluid either. I've never seen it flashing any other time, even after sitting for 9 hours at the end of a work day. ![]() It has become more frequent lately, to the point of happening every morning, but always turns off in about a quarter of a mile, at nearly the same point on my morning commute. At no time did I notice it shifting odd or otherwise behaving strangely. I drove about a quarter of a mile and it went off completely. I let the car warm up for a few minutes then began driving it. Several weeks ago, on a particularly cold morning, the OD light began to flash just after start up. Its a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis with about 97,000 miles on it.
